The National Assembly of Panama approved the transfer of $2.8 million to the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) for infrastructure projects. This collaboration aims to ensure more agile, efficient, and transparent processes in public works management. The Vice Minister of Public Works, Iván De Ycaza, was in charge of presenting the budgetary transfer to the deputies. He stated that the injection of capital will allow the MOP to significantly improve rural connectivity in various areas of the country. De Ycaza highlighted that the use of specialized equipment will facilitate the formation of roads and gutters, as well as the installation of pipes, benefiting both communities and the agricultural sector directly. After receiving approval, the Vice Minister thanked the National Assembly for its support and reaffirmed the MOP's commitment to ensuring a continuous and efficient service in public infrastructure management for the benefit of the country. Through collaboration with UNOPS, the MOP strengthens its commitment to transparent administration, adopting the best international standards and practices in resource management, which benefits the Panamanian people. The funds will be used to execute priority projects, including the rehabilitation of production roads, patching work on the existing road network, as well as drainage and dredging of rivers. These funds will be administered by the Public Infrastructure Coordinating Unit (UCIP) of the MOP under the framework of the current agreement with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
