The Ministry of Public Works of Panama has announced a major project to repair and rehabilitate 12 vehicular bridges in the districts of Panama and San Miguelito. The first structure to be addressed is the critical elevated bridge on Via España (at Cincuentenario and El Balboa), which has not undergone deep maintenance in 25 years. According to Edwin Lewis, director of studies and design, each bridge repair could take between 45 days and two months. Work will mainly be done at night to avoid traffic disruptions, with partial closures. The $11.5 million project was awarded to the consortium Puentes Modulares.
