The Consumer Protection and Competition Defense Authority (Acodeco) conducted an inspection in Panama City to verify that prices for towing services are displayed openly. During the operation, eight economic agents dedicated to providing towing services were inspected to ensure that users receive clear information about costs. Penalties include economic fines determined by the severity of the violation, the agent's recidivism, and the potential damage caused to consumer rights, in addition to other corrective measures stipulated by law. The central objective of the operation was to verify that these economic agents comply with the legal obligation to display prices for all users. During the inspection, the institution's inspectors visited a total of eight establishments. After the review process, it was found that only one of the inspected agents failed to comply with the technical regulations that require the clear and visible display of tariffs in their commercial premises. Acodeco emphasized that the absence of this information prevents the consumer from knowing the exact amount to be paid in advance, which represents a direct lack of transparency on the part of the service provider. Under Article 56 of Law 45 of 2007, any good or service offered on the market must show its cash price precisely and in a visible place. Likewise, Article 36 reinforces the duty to inform the consumer truthfully. Failure to comply with the obligation to display prices constitutes an administrative infringement. This legislation explicitly prohibits any practice that induces confusion, error, or deception, obliging the provider to charge only the announced amount.
