The Municipality of Panama reported that it has received the new license plates corresponding only to first-time registration vehicles, that is, new cars from dealerships registered in the year 2026. Therefore, it clarified that these plates will not be delivered at the municipal payment centers. Taxpayers must pick them up directly at the corresponding car agencies, so the vehicles will leave the agencies with their plates already installed. “For the time being, the delivery of plates corresponds exclusively to new 2026 vehicles, in accordance with first-time registration processes,” the entity detailed. On Tuesday, the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT) delivered the first batch of new plates to the municipality, after overcoming some bureaucratic and legal hurdles that had delayed the process. In total, it delivered 19,940 units. The distribution to the country's other municipalities will be carried out progressively over the next few weeks, in order to normalize the service. The issuance of the new license plates corresponds to the 2026–2030 period, and, as established by Law 214 of May 4, 2021, the new batch of circulation plates must have a new design.
