Over 800 Complaints Registered in Panama in Q1 2026

Panama's Acodeco registered over 800 complaints in the first quarter of 2026. During the first three months of the year, 395 cases were resolved in favor of consumers, recovering an amount exceeding 5.1 million balboas through conciliation. Of the total favorable resolutions, 159 agreements and resolutions were recorded, including refunds, product replacements, repairs, and pending deliveries. These figures underscore the importance of citizens knowing their rights when purchasing goods or services in the local market. According to the institutional report, department stores lead the list of sectors with the highest number of complaints, registering 120 cases. This is followed by real estate companies with 98 complaints, home appliances and electronic equipment with 64, mobile phones with 44, and the organization of artistic events with 28 complaints. Regarding the causes of disputes, breach of warranty stands out as the main reason with 330 complaints, totaling B/. 3,032,318.17. Other recurring reasons include lack of information (144 cases), refund requests (93 cases), breach of service (63 cases), and contract resolution (51 cases). During this period, the institution managed to resolve 395 complaints in favor of consumers, recovering B/. 5,189,905.11. This result was achieved through mechanisms of attention, conciliation, and mediation. The institution reaffirmed its commitment to providing appropriate guidance and maintaining operational channels across the country to resolve consumer disputes in a timely manner.
