Panama Journalists' Union to Host Exhibition of Cartoons

The Panama Journalists' Union (SPP) announces an exhibition of over a hundred cartoons as part of Journalism Week. The event, featuring the work of renowned cartoonists and journalists, will be held from November 2-12 at the SPP headquarters, highlighting the role of cartooning as a tool for social and political critique.

This exhibition is a tribute to that courage, that ingenuity, and that ability to tell truths with humor,” stated Alfonso Gómez, a key organizer of the event, alongside veteran journalist Alberto Velásquez.

The collection presents a historical and contemporary perspective on how artists have used exaggeration and symbolism to capture the essence of public figures, the most relevant events, and the very dynamics of journalism.

Figures from the world of journalism have been invited to the event's inauguration, including Hipólito Donoso, former dean of the Faculty of Communication at the University of Panama, and Rodrigo Correa, founder of the local KW Continente radio station.

The exhibition will be open to media representatives and to all those who are ready to cover the event informatively and to interact with the new generation of artists and cartoonists.

Coinciding with the celebration of Journalism Week, the Panama Journalists' Union (SPP) announces the exhibition of over a hundred cartoons that highlight the work of renowned national journalists and cartoonists, such as Eudoro "Lolo" Silvera and Fernando Peña Morán.

The event will be inaugurated on Wednesday, November 12, starting at 10 a.m. at the SPP headquarters on Gorgas Avenue, Ancón, diagonally across from the National Oncology Institute (ION).

This initiative honors journalistic work and highlights the essential role of cartooning within the communication ecosystem as a powerful instrument of social and political criticism.

«In a world saturated with information, the cartoonist achieves the perfect synthesis. With just a few strokes, he is able to condense the news, point out the absurdity of power, and exercise civic oversight».
