Panama and Cuba Solidarity Movements to Hold Memorial Ceremony for José Martí

Solidarity movements supporting Cuba will commemorate the 173rd anniversary of the birth of Cuban independence hero José Martí, in an event called for Wednesday, January 28, at 4:30 p.m., at Belisario Porras Square in the capital of Panama. Martí, a national hero of Cuba, was born in the city of Havana on January 28, 1853. He stood out as one of the clearest anti-colonial figures of the 19th century. He was also the founder of the Cuban Revolutionary Party and organizer of the Cuban War of Independence, in which he died in combat in 1895. His works inspired several generations of Latin American patriots and thinkers. He stood out as a visionary politician, diplomat, poet, essayist, journalist, and philosopher.
