Members of the National Union of Construction Workers and Similar (SUNTRACS) held a protest on the streets of the Panamanian capital to reiterate their defense of national sovereignty and demand respect for social security in the country.
During the rallies, the workers condemned the upcoming official visit to Panama by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while Washington issues threats regarding the interoceanic route. In a statement highlighting their rejection of colonialism, the activists protested against potential external interference in the nation's affairs.
The union mobilization coincided with a press conference by President José Raúl Mulino, where he asserted that the Panama Canal is not under Chinese military influence or control. The workers, raising their voices in the streets, expressed their firm stance in defense of the country's sovereignty and the importance of maintaining social security for all citizens.
