The group "Project Union" denounced that the Secretary removed the signature of the Secretary of Finance from the SPP account without the proper authorization of the Board, which constitutes an usurpation of functions that by law correspond to said secretariat.
Guild Ethics: The collective repudiated that a person who in the past led the closure of media outlets on orders from the military, today gives lectures to journalists within the framework of "Journalist's Day", an act they consider contrary to the principles of freedom of expression. Project Union calls for the Secretary General to account for his administration and restore institutionalism within the union.
The group "Project Union" stated that this process represents a violation of the guild's current statutes, specifically article 6, items a and d, regarding membership requirements. The group affirms that among the new memberships are people who do not legally qualify as Journalists or Graphic Reporters. The denouncing group points out that the Secretary General is ignoring the members of the Board of Directors elected and endorsed by the labor authorities, thus exceeding his functions. The members consider it a serious offense that in the activities commemorating "Journalist's Day", space was given to "Public Relations Specialists and Advertisers" instead of prioritizing journalists. Project Union announced that these new memberships will be challenged before the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) for exceeding functions. Additionally, the group denounced that the faction that, in their view, "usurps the functions" of the Board of Directors is promoting the waiver of debts in the form of quotas from people who distanced themselves from the organization for decades.
Denunciations regarding financial management and speakers: Project Union also informed the public about two serious issues related to the administrative and ethical management of the SPP. Financial Management: The Secretary General is required to present a report on expenses from his administration.
Challenge of memberships and violation of statutes: One of the most worrying points is the swearing-in and affiliation of new members. This act is pointed out as a disregard for the professionals graduated from national universities, even though the Secretary General is part of the teaching staff of the University of Panama.
The members of "Project Union" made an urgent call to the Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Jackeline Muñoz de Cedeño, to intervene in the alleged irregularities committed by the Secretary General of the Panama Journalists' Union (SPP).
