Panameñistas and PRD to Hold Internal Elections in Panama

This Sunday, November 23rd, two of Panama's political parties, the Panameñista Party and the Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD), will hold national-level internal elections. The Panameñistas will vote for a new National Board, while the PRD will seek to elect five new members to its National Executive Committee (CEN). According to members of their respective election commissions, both parties are ready for the vote and are awaiting the arrival of voters. The Panameñista Party will vote at the Hotel El Panamá, while the PRD will vote at Playa Bonita. Alberto Guerra, President of the Panameñista Party's National Election Committee, stated that everything is ready for the November 23rd contest with the two slates of candidates. Voting will open at 7:00 AM and is expected to conclude around 11:00 AM. "The process must be quick," Guerra explained, adding that after the vote, the results will be certified and the winner should be known by noon. Guerra mentioned that 1,375 delegates are eligible to vote in these elections, where victory will be determined by the winning slate: 11 for the National Board, 16 main directors, and 16 alternates for the directorships. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD) will see 305 people vote, consisting of the 5 CEN members plus 300 directors, explained "Chachi" Degracia, a member of the party's National Election Committee. The PRD has 45 candidates running, and the elections will take place at the Westin in Playa Bonita, Veracruz. The positions to be elected are: First Vice President, Second Vice President, General Secretary, First Subsecretary, and Sixth Subsecretary. The Electoral Tribunal will provide technical and logistical supervision.
