Panama City Council Approves 2026 Budget The Panama City Council approved the mayor's office budget for the 2026 fiscal year on Tuesday, amounting to $242,349,323. The proposal maintains the fiscal discipline of the current administration, with expenditures below revenues to avoid deficits.

Rodolfo Precilla was elected as the new president of the Municipal Council for the term from January 1 to June 30, 2026, with 23 votes in favor, 3 against, and no abstentions. Martiza Villarreal will serve as vice president.

The new budget, which represents a 4% increase from the previous year, is still 24.26% lower than the $325.6 million approved in 2024 by the previous administration. For 2026, $169.9 million was allocated to the municipal headquarters and $72.4 million to Decentralization.

The continuity of 39 ongoing projects in various districts is also ensured. Among the new projects are the installation of inclusive playgrounds, street and sidewalk repairs, the implementation of smart bus stops, the second phase of the municipal swimming pool renovation, and the expansion of the Municipal Surveillance Service's video surveillance system.
