President Mulino honors the memory of police captain killed by criminals. The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, joined in the grief of the Panamanian police community by honoring the memory of the (posthumous) Captain José Isaza Melo, who died in the line of duty on December 12 in the Caimitillo district. At a solemn ceremony held at the headquarters of the National Police, the head of state expressed his condolences to José Isaza and Mireya Melo, parents of Captain Isaza, a distinguished officer who dedicated 25 years of service to the institution. During the ceremony, floral offerings were placed in front of the monument erected in his memory and his casket was draped with the national flag. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Security, Frank Ábrego; the Director General of the National Police, Jaime Fernández; as well as members of the board of directors of the security forces, reservists and special guests. Both Minister Ábrego and Director Fernández reiterated their gratitude, solidarity and support to the family at this difficult time. As a sign of deep respect and reflection, a volley of shots was fired and the 'Last Post' was played.
