Panama's President Discusses Historic Visit of the Patriarch of Alexandria

In an uncommon and symbolic encounter, President José Raúl Mulino received in his office a religious mission that came to coordinate the official visit to Panama of His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all of Africa. A discreet meeting, but with significant spiritual and diplomatic weight. The head of state met with Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico and Exarch of Central America and the Caribbean, with whom he discussed all the details of a visit that will mark a historic event for the country. Mulino expressed his pleasure and made it clear that Panama opens its doors to dialogue between churches and peoples. At the table were also H.S. Panagiotis Lymberopulos and Alejandro El Brihi-Protopresbyter, parish priest of the Greek Cathedral of Panama and president of the Ecumenical Committee, who are refining the logistics and spiritual scope of the encounter. For clarity: the Patriarch who is coming is not just any religious figure. He is the leader of several Christian churches based in Alexandria, Egypt, including the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, with roots that date back to the first centuries of Christianity.
