Panama Deputy Calls Colleague a Liar During Assembly Debate

During a heated debate on a university leadership re-election bill in Panama, Deputy Raúl Pineda clashed with a colleague, accusing her of lying while boasting about his own academic credentials.

During a plenary session at the National Assembly, where a bill aimed at regulating the re-election of rectors and deans of the country's public universities was being discussed, Deputy Raúl Pineda called a fellow deputy a liar. But not content with just that, Pineda accused her, stating that he does not have business with the state nor does he ask for favors. "I have no business with the government, I don't ask for favors in the budget commission, and my dad doesn't have business with the government either, you lying deputy," Pineda lashed out. Pineda's reaction was virulent: "Never, liar," replied the deputy from the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) for San Miguelito, who then added: "I have never been at UNACHI." "The professors are here," said Pineda. Subsequently, Pineda boasted about having seven university degrees, two of which he obtained from the University of Panama with first place. "I am a graduate of the University of Panama," Pineda said as a female voice intervened without a microphone to quip, "and from UNACHI too." "Whoever wants to dance alone, their own ass looks for a partner," Pineda concluded.
