Panama's Comprehensive Development Plan for Indigenous Peoples funds the construction of a new educational center in the Emberá Wounaan Comarca. Initiated with World Bank support, the project aims to improve access to education for over 450 residents in the region.


Construction process begins for educational center in Panama

As part of the Comprehensive Development Plan for Indigenous Peoples, financed by the World Bank and executed by the Ministry of Government through the Coordinating Unit of Projects-UCP, the process of receiving and opening bids for the construction of the Alto Playón Educational Center in the Emberá Wounaan Comarca territory has begun. With the participation of a company that submitted its bid, the public act took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Government, in the Casco Viejo, attended by the UCP/Mingob project team. The construction project consists of 'Design, study, improvements, and construction for the Alto Playón Educational Center, located in the Cémaco corregimiento, Alto Playón community, Emberá Wounaan Comarca.' This new educational center is expected to benefit a population of over 450 inhabitants and an enrollment of more than 150 students, including preschool, primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary levels. Currently, the Comprehensive Development Plan for Indigenous Peoples has several ongoing, tendered, and to-be-tendered projects in health and education centers, in partnership with MINSA and MEDUCA, reaching the 12 territories of indigenous congresses and councils nationwide.
