Meanwhile, the country remains attentive, with its eyes on the children who truly need protection. Representatives of organizations that directly support children and adolescents were also present. The case has sparked reactions both within the country and externally. The Senniaf Board of Directors held an extraordinary meeting this Monday, convened by the Minister of Social Development, Beatriz Carles, following reports of alleged irregularities at the Integral Care Center (CAI) in Tocumen. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to conduct a complete internal review, demand reports, and closely monitor any administrative responsibility. Carles presided over the meeting, which was attended by the ministers of Economy and Finance, Health, Education and Labor, and the Comptroller General. Over the weekend, UNICEF expressed concern for the rights of children, girls, and adolescents in the country. The organization reminded that most minors entering the system do have families and arrive at the shelter due to serious rights violations requiring specialized evaluation. Therefore, each case requires careful evaluation and specialized teams to ensure their safety and well-being. Panama currently has 48 shelters nationwide, six of which are state-run: four managed by Mides and two supervised by Senniaf. Following the meeting, authorities assured they will be monitoring the reports and decisions that arise from this review.
