The Panamanian state honored on Thursday, March 5, 2026, the public career and management of Mayín Correa, current governor of the Panamá province. During an official ceremony, His Excellency José Raúl Mulino Quintero, President of the Republic, will present the National Order Dr. Belisario Porras in the degree of Grand Cross to the official, highlighting her exceptional service to the country. This distinction represents the highest recognition that Panama grants for excellence in the scientific, artistic, literary, humanitarian, and public service fields. The order is named after the three-time president of the nation, considered the 'architect' of the modern republic, and symbolizes the commitment to the country's institutional development that has characterized Mayín Correa's career. Born in Macaracas, Los Santos province, Mayín Correa Delgado began her political journey in 1978 as a representative of the Bella Vista district. After being elected legislator in 1984 with a historic vote, her active role in the resistance against the military dictatorship led her to exile in 1987. With the return to democracy, she served as Mayor of Panama from 1991-1994 and was reelected for the five-year term 1994-1999. During this time, she led emblematic projects that transformed the capital, such as the creation of the Pedestrian Walkway on Avenida Central and the tourist complex 'Mi Pueblito'. Throughout her career, Mayín Correa has promoted initiatives with high social and urban impact, among which stand out the Seafood Market, the 'Weapons for Food' program, the Gazebo at the Cathedral Park, the Municipal Artisan Market, and the creation of the Municipal Watchmen corps, in addition to institutionalizing the Christmas Parade. In the realm of governorship, she served as the highest authority of the Panamá province during the period 2009-2014 under the Ricardo Martinelli administration.
