Panama Holds National Meeting of Women to Promote Female Entrepreneurship

In Panama, in commemoration of International Women's Day, the National Meeting of Panameñista Women was held under the slogan 'Voices of Women Building the Future'. Over 200 leaders from various provinces gathered in Albrook to discuss current challenges in political participation, economic development, and entrepreneurship. The event was attended by the National Secretary for Women, Mireya Montemayor, and the General Secretary of the Panameñista Party, Erika González. During the event, Mireya Montemayor presented a draft bill for the creation of the 'I Learn and I Empower for Women and Youth' fund. This fund aims to facilitate access to seed capital and business training programs, with a priority focus on communities with the greatest economic needs. Erika González emphasized the importance of eradicating gender-based violence and ensuring the opening of new spaces for women in Panamanian politics. In line with this, Rosalía Hooker, Provincial Secretary for Women in Bocas del Toro, urged attendees to maintain constant preparation to increase female representation in decision-making positions. International consultant Fanny Ramírez analyzed the structural barriers that persist in Panama and limit women's access to economic opportunities. The event concluded as a platform for dialogue and training aimed at generating concrete proposals for the comprehensive development of women in today's society.
