Pedregal to Get New Hospital and Stadiums

The Pedregal district will finally have its own hospital and new sports facilities, projects aimed at improving the quality of life for over 50,000 residents who have had to travel to other areas for medical care for years. Pedregal's representative, Luis Constante, confirmed that the new Pedregal hospital will become a reality after the community board ceded three plots of land to the Ministry of Health, which will allow the contracting and construction process to move forward. «The land to build the hospital had become the main obstacle because there were no available lots and the existing ones were very expensive. With the land from the community board, everything has been facilitated to start the contracting for the new Pedregal hospital», explained Constante. Currently, residents must be treated at the J.J. Vallarino polyclinic, located in Juan Díaz, a center that belongs to the Social Security Fund and that, according to the representative, has become too small and does not cover those who do not pay into the social security system, which makes the opening of an open-access hospital in the area urgent. In addition to the public health project, Constante announced that studies have already begun with Pandeportes for the construction of the new Fatam stadium in the Riviera sector, designed for top-level sporting activities, especially football. Likewise, in the 8th Street sector, the Luis «Matador» Tejada stadium will be built in collaboration with the Municipality of Panama, expanding the options for the sports and recreational development of children and young people. «We ask the community for patience because all these projects must go through tender processes, which can sometimes be delayed, but the important thing is that they have already started and there is no turning back», he highlighted.
