Fire at Penonomé Landfill

In the province of Coclé, in the city of Penonomé, municipal services confined a fire at the landfill this morning. Colonel Margarita Ducreaux, from the Fire Department, detailed that it was the cleaning workers themselves, with the help of backhoes, mechanical shovels, tractors, and water tankers, who managed to put out the fire that started yesterday, shortly before 3:00 p.m. She highlighted that there are several landfills in the province, and in three of them, including Penonomé, 'fires are always reported'. She explained that the containment work, with the help of the F500 concentrate provided by the Fire Department, took longer than expected, as they did not have the water tanker truck at the site when the emergency was reported, and the strong wind spread the flames. 'If they had had the tanker at the landfill in less time, the flames would not have gained so much strength,' she indicated. She assured that, under the monitoring of the Fire Department and the supervision of the Head of Cleaning and Landfill, Malena Osorio, the municipal staff today is only engaged in containing small hot spots that generate flames and toxic smoke, which affects nearby communities such as El Coco and Palo Alto.
