Access to Pesé Landfill Restricted to Prevent Fires

In response to a series of recent fires at the Pesé landfill in Herrera, which affected the health and tranquility of local residents, authorities have announced an adjustment to the operating hours at the site. The Pesé Municipality has prohibited the entry of unauthorized individuals to the municipal landfill after 3:00 PM as part of measures to prevent fires and safeguard the health and well-being of the population. Pesé Mayor Yecenia Alfonso stated that only individuals extracting materials will be permitted entry from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. These entries will be under the direct supervision of municipal personnel stationed at the landfill entrance. After this time, all activities are strictly prohibited, and individuals found on the site will be subject to action by the National Police, which has been duly authorized to apply corresponding sanctions. Furthermore, the mayor made an appeal to those who enter during the permitted hours, reminding them that smoking or using fire to extract materials is prohibited, warning that non-compliance with these regulations could lead to a total suspension of access, even within the authorized timeframe. Mayor Alfonso acknowledged that some individuals depend on this activity for their livelihood; however, she reiterated that access to the landfill will depend on strict compliance with established regulations, prioritizing safety and public health. As part of reinforcement measures, the Pesé Municipality announced significant progress in the installation of security cameras and the assignment of permanent machinery at the landfill to improve site control and operational efficiency. Finally, it was reiterated that the entry of wood into the landfill is prohibited, following recommendations from the Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority, the Fire Department, and other entities, as this material increases the risk of fires.
