Guandú producers from Herrera province have announced they are ready to start marketing this bean, one of the most sought-after by Panamanian families during the end-of-year season. In the El Pájaro community, in the Pesé district, several hectares of crops have entered the full harvest phase, destined for both direct sale and distribution to resellers. According to the producers, since October the plantations have begun to bear fruit, allowing for a stable supply to meet the growing demand. Despite the persistent rains recorded in recent weeks, they assure that they have managed to maintain their activities without major impacts. "It has rained quite a bit, but we are doing everything we can so that there is no major impact. There is already a good quantity of guandú for sale and people from all over the country are calling us to secure their order," said Samuel Falcón, a guandú producer. The producer explained that they have reinforced the spraying and crop management tasks to avoid losses caused by pests associated with excess moisture, and indicated that the investments made this year have allowed the grain to develop successfully.

Producers recommend that consumers purchase guandú in advance, as the price may fluctuate around 4 dollars per pound, depending on the availability in the coming weeks. Under these conditions, Herrera farmers hope to guarantee an adequate supply of the traditional guandú, an indispensable ingredient in Panamanian homes for end-of-year celebrations.
