Strategic Projects Announced to Boost Chiriquí's Economy

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino announced a series of projects aimed at boosting and revitalizing the economy in the province of Chiriquí. He made the announcement yesterday in Puerto Armuelles. Among the highlighted initiatives are the construction of the Port of Barú, the upgrade of the Paso Canoas customs area, and the railroad. The head of state stated that these projects, along with other road, sewerage, and health initiatives, will create a development hub. He emphasized that state entities are focused on training the residents of Puerto Armuelles so they can take advantage of the opportunities these projects will bring, which will benefit the entire province and the country. As a sign of international interest, he mentioned the presence of top-tier, globally recognized Japanese investors. Additionally, he announced that in April he will hold a bilateral meeting with the outgoing president of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, and his successor, Laura Fernández, to promote the Paso Canoas border area. He also revealed that the Bilateral Customs Post, which had been abandoned, must be completed by December. In March, he will also meet with executives from Royal Caribbean Cruises, who are interested in establishing a site in Barú for repairing their ships. He also announced the rehabilitation of the Airport-Pedregal road up to the Seafood Market in David. Regarding the construction of the Chiriquí-Panama railroad, he explained that the feasibility report will be ready in May to determine the progress of this mega-project.
