A 29-year-old woman died after a head-on collision with a bridge on the Pan-American Highway. Five people were trapped in the vehicle; paramedics provided assistance and transported the injured to hospitals.


Woman Dies in Traffic Accident on Pan-American Highway in Panama

Panama, February 3, 2026. Anaelys Patiño, 29, died following a traffic accident on the Inter-American Highway, near the bridge over the Poro Poro River, in the district of San Carlos, Panama Oeste province.

In the head-on collision, which occurred at around 9:15 a.m., a white pickup truck collided with the bridge's structure. Five people were trapped inside the vehicle.

Paramedics from the Unified Emergency Management System (SUME 911) arrived at the scene to assist the injured. After being stabilized, the victims were transported to the Juan Vega Méndez policlinic in San Carlos and subsequently to the Nicolás A. Solano Hospital in La Chorrera.

After 2:40 p.m., the on-duty doctor reported that Patiño had died from injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities are now investigating the case to determine the cause of the accident.
