Mayorga: Panama must 'turn the page' after loss to Cuba

Panama's team manager, José Mayorga, said after his team's 3-1 loss to Cuba in Group A that the team needs to 'turn the page'. 'We have to try to turn the page, make it 1-1 and come prepared for Sunday,' Mayorga stated at a press conference following the defeat at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, where Panama is playing in Group A. Although Panama lost, the Panamanian team had opportunities to at least tie the score on a couple of occasions, but errors on base-running limited those possibilities. 'We have to try to limit the outs on the bases, try to turn the page and start fresh,' added Mayorga. Two of Cuba's three runs came from a two-run homer by Yoán Moncada in the third inning against starter Logan Allen. Cuba's other run was a solo home run by Yoelkis Guibert in the previous inning. In addition to that offensive performance, Cuban left-handed starter Liván Moinelo and five other Cuban pitchers shut down the Panamanian bats, thus continuing their dominance over Panama, 3-0, in the history of the Classic. José Mayorga, Panama's manager for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, said this Friday after his team's 1-3 loss to Cuba that his team's goal is to 'turn the page' and focus on their next challenge this Saturday against the hosts, Puerto Rico. 'There are things we need to improve tomorrow against Puerto Rico,' he concluded.
