In a humble farm in Santiago de Veraguas, something rare for these parts happened. A goat gave birth to five kids in a single birth, all alive and well-formed. It occurred on the "Mis Cabritas 09" farm in the Guayaquil community, and left many people speechless. Each kid was born weighing about seven pounds, something uncommon when so many are born together. The result was no accident. In the countryside, five kids at once is not just news: it is hope. And it is clear to see. From the Ministry of Livestock, Sara Feliú assured that the focus now is on ensuring that these cases do not remain just an anecdote. The idea is for more small producers to be encouraged, to try, and to improve their production. Behind this was artificial insemination, a technique that is not yet commonplace in goat farming in the country, but which proved its worth here. The achievement was made with technical support from MIDA, especially in health and nutrition matters. In the countryside, they know that without that, there are no miracles. Veterinarian Ramón Riera, from the national program for minor species, explained that when the producer applies what is recommended, the results are evident.
