Odebrecht fails to pay the hefty fine

The Brazilian company Odebrecht owes the Panamanian State the sum of B/ 220 million, of which only B/ 74.4 million has been recovered to date.

According to official reports, Odebrecht is failing to pay a multi-million-dollar fine due in 2024. Despite previously established agreements, the company has not fulfilled its financial obligations to the Panamanian State.

This non-compliance has raised concerns among local authorities, who expected Odebrecht to meet its commitments to settle its debt. So far, no details have been disclosed about the possible actions the State will take to ensure the remaining payment from the company.

In the words of a government official: "It is essential that Odebrecht fulfills its financial commitments to the State. We will be vigilant of any developments in this regard and will act accordingly to protect the interests of Panama."
