Urgent Report Required on Monte Lirio Hydroelectric Situation

The National Energy Secretariat demands a detailed report from Electron Investment, S.A. regarding the issues at Monte Lirio Hydroelectric Plant within 72 hours, emphasizing priority action.


The National Energy Secretariat has requested a detailed report on the anomalous situation occurring at the Monte Lirio Hydroelectric Plant, which is operated by Electron Investment, S.A. The national energy secretary, Juan M. Urriola, sent a communication to the company's general manager, engineer Héctor Cotes, demanding that a report be delivered within a maximum period of 72 hours. This report must detail the remediation actions that have been implemented and those that will be implemented in the affected infrastructures.

Urriola based his request on Law 43 of April 5, 2011, which grants the National Energy Secretariat the authority to request information from all operational agents in the energy sector, both public and private. In addition, he specified that the report must also be sent with a copy to the general administrator of the National Public Services Authority (ASEP), Zelmar Rodríguez de Massiah; to the director of the National Dispatch Center, engineer Carlos Barreto; and to the minister of Environment, Juan Carlos Navarro.

The energy secretary emphasized the importance of addressing this situation as a priority and left open the possibility for direct consultations through his telephone contact.

In the words of Juan M. Urriola: 'It is necessary to act quickly regarding the situation at the Monte Lirio Hydroelectric Plant to ensure the integrity of the infrastructures and safety in general. We will be vigilant and in constant communication to ensure that the appropriate measures are taken as soon as possible.'
