Metro de Panamá is set to release a list of prequalified companies for a cable car project, aiming to enhance mobility in San Miguelito and improve residents' quality of life. Two international consortia are competing for the concession, promising modern transport solutions and more accessible routes for the community.

The Panama Metro has reported that soon the list of prequalified companies eligible to participate in the bidding to select the concessionaire in charge of executing the administrative concession contract for the Panama and San Miguelito cable car project will be announced. The Minister of the Presidency emphasized that this project will provide significant benefits in terms of mobility and modernization, especially for the residents of San Miguelito, improving their quality of life and safety. The results are expected to be announced by the end of March.

The objective of this prequalification process is to establish the list of prequalified companies that will compete in the bidding for the administrative concession of the cable car that will connect the districts of Panama and San Miguelito. The documentation submitted by the participants will be evaluated within 10 business days, with the possibility of a 5-day extension.

Two international consortia have submitted their proposals for the construction of the cable car, which will have a length of 6.6 km and six stations, two in Panama and four in San Miguelito. This project aims to improve the mobility of residents in both areas by connecting them with Line 2 of the Panama Metro in a first phase.

One of the consortia is the Telecom Consortium SPE, with more than 35 years of experience in urban mobility projects, while the other is the San Miguelito Telecom Consortium, backed by a company recognized as a leader in mass cable car systems worldwide. The prequalification process will help select the companies that will participate in the bidding to be called by Metro de Panamá, S.A. between the end of April and early May.

The Minister of the Presidency highlighted that this cable car project is one of the main promises of the President of the Republic to improve the quality of life in the densely populated area. The cable car is expected to bring various advantages to the community, with its inauguration estimated in approximately 24 months. Information about this process will be available on the PanamaCompra portal.
