Over 10,000 Anomalies Recorded in Panama West Businesses
The Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense (Acodeco) in Panama West continues to conduct constant inspections of all commercial establishments in the province.
Details of Irregularities Found Inspections carried out by the Acodeco team in Panama West have revealed the following data on anomalies detected in various products to date: • Expired products: 8,097 • Products without a visible price: 2,214 • Damaged products: 169 • Products without an expiration date: 159 • Products with an unclear date: 14
Total anomalies: 10,653
Fines and Joint Operations In addition to anomalies in the condition and labeling of products, the regional administration has imposed fines on 15 economic agents for failing to comply with price controls on 13 regulated products. The anomalies have been detected through official inspections and consumer complaints.
The objective of these actions is to monitor consumer rights, in compliance with Law 45 of October 31, 2007.
These operations resulted in the seizure of over 400 expired and damaged products, as well as the issuance of four citations for price control violations. Additionally, three establishments were found to be improperly using the 25-pound gas cylinder, which is subsidized by the state, for which the corresponding records were made.
Recently, Acodeco participated in three joint operations with the Regional Ministry of Health (Minsa) of Panama West. Minsa proceeded to close more than three establishments, mainly because expired products in a state of decomposition were found. The total accumulated amount of these fines is B/. 4,375.
