The best sustainability stories begin with a collective commitment. For this reason, the National Bank of Panama recognized the organizations whose projects were distinguished in the Sustainable Funds Banconal contest, an initiative aimed at promoting community actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous country.
In this first edition, priority was given to environmental SDGs, receiving 48 proposals from organizations across the country. An Evaluation Committee, comprised of Karla Mola from Sumarse (representing the business sector), Andrés Tarté from the International Center for Sustainable Development (CIDES) (representing civil society), and Gabriela Pastor, Executive Manager of Corporate Governance (representing the institution), was responsible for selecting the winning proposals.
The three initiatives selected for their impact and contribution to sustainable development in various communities of the country:
First Place – US$15,000 Organization: International Coalition of Women and Families – CIMUF Project: Women of Curundú for Climate Action: Sowing the Land, Harvesting Hope. Prioritized SDG: SDG 13 – Climate Action.
Second Place – US$10,000 Organization: MVP Panama Foundation Project: Water Guardians – Restoration, Monitoring, and Community Composting in the Mamoní River sub-watershed. Prioritized SDG: SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation.
Third Place – US$5,000 Organization: Tortugías Foundation Project: Blue Legacy – Conservation of sea turtles on the beaches of Western Panama and Los Santos. Prioritized SDG: SDG 14 – Life Below Water.
To all participating organizations, we extend our recognition for developing solutions that generate social and environmental value, decisively contributing to the construction of a more sustainable Panama.
