Expansion of the Corridor of the Beaches begins in Panama

Panama's Ministry of Public Works has announced the start of a major project to expand the Corridor of the Beaches and build a bypass in the Campana area. The project will be divided into four sections, with a total cost exceeding $250 million.

The expansion project for the Corridor of the Beaches and the variant in the Campana area will be divided into four sections. The first section runs from Los Calderones, where the Corridor of the Beaches ends, to the town of Capira. It is 10 kilometers long with a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The second section goes from the Capira National Bank to Quesos Chela, covering 2 kilometers with a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour. The third section, from that point to the entrance of Campana, is 4.1 kilometers long with a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour. The final section will be the Loma Campana variant, where a 3.8-kilometer viaduct will be built with a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

The consortium I&C, made up of Constructora Urbana (Cusa) and Ininco, S.A., submitted a bid of $265.3 million. The other bid was from Constructora Meco, S.A., for $228.4 million.

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) set a reference price of $250 million. The contractor must deliver the project, fully completed and accepted by the State, within 900 calendar days (29 and a half months), counted from the date of the Order to Proceed.

Minister of Public Works José Luis Andrade noted that traffic on the viaduct in the Campana area will be via toll payment.

The Cusa and Ininco consortium is currently carrying out the repair of the Pan-American Highway between Santiago and David for $50.1 million. Ininco will also undertake the 'Coffee Route' project in Boquete for $25.9 million.

Recently, Meco has been involved in the repair of the main runways at Tocumen International Airport, which is scheduled to begin in January.
