The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) reported that the official opening of the roadway took place on December 4, 2025, allowing vehicular traffic over the structure located on Avenida Roberto Ramírez De Diego. The regional director of the MOP in Herrera, Melissa Castillo, highlighted that this partial delivery represents an important step towards the full completion of the project. Currently, final details are being completed, such as the tunnel's cladding, while the roadway is already ready for use. Castillo explained that the depressed section or tunnel, another key phase of the project, is still in the final stages of work and is expected to be handed over by the end of this month, prior to the official inauguration of the interchange. She also pointed out that teams are working on adjustments to signage, an essential component for road safety, and that other complementary needs, such as possible turnarounds to optimize traffic flow, are being evaluated. The director acknowledged that the project has caused inconveniences for users during its construction but emphasized that 'it brings great satisfaction when the phases are cleared, as it provides much ease of mobility for the entire population'. The Chitré Interchange Bridge viaduct, one of the most anticipated works by the community, received its first users this Thursday, marking a significant milestone within the project.
