The Specialized University of the Americas (Udelas) issued two orders to proceed with the construction of its own headquarters, which include classrooms and specialized laboratories for the university extensions in Coclé and Azuero, in the province of Los Santos, at a cost of over 2.8 million dollars. Nicolasa Terreros Barrios, Rector of Udelas, announced that the university has also started the first phase of construction of a university extension in the province of Colón, aiming to have campuses in five provinces. The head of Udelas highlighted the importance of the project as a transcendent step for the academic community, as every classroom and laboratory built will be a place where new ideas germinate, integral and capable professionals are formed, and the bond between society and the university is strengthened. The University emphasized that both projects were duly approved by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and subsequently endorsed by the Comptroller General of the Republic, which represents institutional strengthening for this higher education institution and for the country's public higher education. "We are very satisfied, we are on the right path, when we are on the right path things go well; the delivery of this order to proceed means an important step towards growth, but above all, towards the development of our Extension, and with it the university consolidates and strengthens its presence throughout the national territory," she added. The event for the delivery of the orders to proceed was also attended by local authorities from the two provinces, who committed to supporting the provision of basic services such as water, electricity, and roads for the new facilities, located behind the Anita Moreno Hospital in the Villa de Los Santos. In turn, in Los Santos, the construction of two classroom pavilions will be carried out, which will benefit more than 650 students from Herrera and Los Santos. As for the Coclé extension, it will involve the supply of materials, labor, equipment, special systems for the construction of the second phase of the laboratory pavilion (chemistry, physics, biology, technology, languages), among others at the UDELAS University Extension. The construction company Battikh, S.A., will be in charge of the works in the province of Coclé, for an amount of $1,244,297.50, and in the Azuero extension for $1,635,717.69, for the benefit of hundreds of students who aspire to professional careers that will allow them to contribute to local and national development.
