Copper concentrate royalties exceed $29M for Panama's infrastructure projects

Panama's Minister of Commerce and Industries announced that $29M in copper concentrate royalties will fund national infrastructure projects, benefiting communities near the mine.

The Minister of Commerce and Industries, Julio Moltó, announced that royalties from the export of copper concentrate from the mine amount to over 29 million dollars and will be used to carry out various infrastructure projects nationwide. Moltó explained that the communities adjacent to the mine (Omar Torrijos, Donoso, La Pintada) will be the main beneficiaries of these projects, which include road construction, school upgrades, and more. Four shipments were used to transport and market the said concentrate, dispatched on June 18 and on July 4, 22, and 27 of this year. Last October, Moltó stated before the Assembly's Trade Commission that the copper concentrate held by the mine was 128,017 metric tons, according to an audit conducted on December 12, 2024. Omar Torrijos will receive over three million dollars, while Donoso and La Pintada will each get over one million, detailed the head of Mici. The funds generated from this operation will also be used to finance the Plan for Preservation and Safe Management of the area until a decision is made about its future.
