Juan Arias, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap), believes this is the time to eliminate bureaucratic processes that slow down private investment. He also emphasized the need to continue building confidence to attract foreign investment that will create quality jobs. Arias noted that in 2025, Panama's growth exceeded 4%, which he called a 'miracle' despite strikes and closures that threatened Chiquita, Panama's second-largest import product. He recalled that over 50% of workers at the copper mine earned over $1,000, while the national average salary was $750. Arias stated that investments are often hindered by fear, long queues, and delays of up to a year to open a business branch. 'This is the time to get rid of the bureaucracy that exists to open a company or branch,' he said. He also highlighted Panama's potential for tourism, including beaches, lakes, and certified hospitals. In the long term, he believes the country must continue to build confidence to maintain its investment grade. Arias added that the copper mine could help reduce unemployment, which affects 250,000 Panamanians, and suggested considering job creation through this project.
