The Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense (Acodeco) emphasizes that the terms and conditions of the warranty must be clear, whether within the sales contract or in a separate document that is part of the invoice. This document must include, among other points: the name and address of the business and the consumer; an exact description of the product or service, with brand, model, serial number, size, and color, when applicable; the date of purchase and delivery; the duration of the warranty period. Additionally, the supplier must clearly explain what the warranty covers, where to file a claim, and have the express approval of the business or its authorized representative. The entity reminded consumers that without an invoice, any formal claim is lost or complicated, which is why it is recommended to always demand an invoice, verify that it includes the date, a detailed description of the product, the individual amount, and the business's details, and to keep it for the entire warranty period or make a photocopy. The invoice is not just a piece of paper; it is the document that proves the purchase of a product and allows for demanding its repair, replacement, or refund, so it is important to request it from commercial establishments. According to the entity, the non-respect of the warranty continues to be the main complaint from consumers, so it insists that everything must be put in writing. They clarified that no business can refuse to provide this document, whether physical or digital. This is because the Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense (Acodeco), from January to November of 2025, has received 996 complaints for warranty violations, totaling $7,700,928.35. Even if the payment is made through Yappy or another electronic platform, it is still mandatory.
