The Transístmica road remains closed after a landslide, increasing pressure on businesses in the Colón province. Since August 4, 2025, the stretch between Quebrada Ancha and Río Gatún has been shut, forcing freight operators to reroute traffic onto the Alberto Motta Highway. This has raised costs due to tolls, affecting logistics between Panama and Colón.
Local residents and merchants have voiced frustration over the lack of a concrete reopening schedule, noting that the situation effectively isolates the capital from vital trade flows and raises transportation costs.
"We need a response now," entrepreneur Germán Bonilla says, stressing that the closure continues to hurt both companies and citizens.
Bonilla urged President José Raúl Mulino to intervene directly, arguing that the issue requires immediate executive action to speed up repairs.
