UDELAS Introduces Progressive Tuition Discount

The University of the Specialized Americas (UDELAS) announced direct relief for its students. The Administrative Council approved a progressive discount scheme, which includes an additional 20% reduction each year. If the plan is maintained, by the 2027 academic year, tuition would have a 60% discount, with a projection to continue increasing in the following years. The decision was made unanimously after a technical analysis based on criteria of quality, equality, equity, and access to higher education. The university clarified that this discount does not apply to postgraduate programs, master's degrees, doctorates, diplomas, or free courses, which are part of its self-management scheme. This announcement comes at a time when the country is discussing major educational reforms, driven by the executive branch and the Ministry of Education, aimed at modernizing the system, reducing gaps, and ensuring greater access and retention in classrooms. In this context, public universities are also reviewing their internal policies to align with the upcoming changes. UDELAS indicates that this measure aims to allow more young people to enter and stay in the university, in an economic scenario where many students face difficulties in covering the costs of their education.
