APM Terminals ready to temporarily manage Panama ports

APM Terminals confirmed its willingness to temporarily assume the management of the ports of Balboa and Cristóbal. This statement followed President José Raúl Mulino's address to the nation, in which he outlined the transition plan after the concession contract was declared unconstitutional.

The company indicated that its potential participation aims to support the operational continuity of the terminals and prevent disruptions to services related to regional and global trade. Any assumption of terminal management could only occur once the Supreme Court ruling becomes effective and all legal formalities are met.

APM Terminals clarified that it is not part of ongoing legal processes and does not participate in decisions regarding the future structure or administration of the ports.

«The company is not a party to the ongoing legal processes nor does it participate in decisions on the future structure and administration — whether short or long-term — of the ports of Balboa and Cristóbal,» the statement reads.

The company emphasized that any action taken will be guided by technical criteria, supply chain integrity, and public interest. Its eventual role would be strictly transitional under current legislation, aligning with the President's vision for an orderly transition towards a new concession process.
