The National Aqueduct and Sewerage Institute (IDAAN) began a national operation today, February 4, to cut off water service to delinquent customers. The operation will continue throughout the year. "Those who owe and do not come forward will lose their service," stated the National Commercial Director of the institute, Marvina Abrego. She clarified that this is not a threat, but a reality. The total delinquency from residential customers exceeds $80.2 million, with $16 million corresponding to commercial customers. The most severe impact is in the province of Panama, where the debt reaches $10.2 million, making it the country's red zone. Customers can approach agencies, commissioned agents, and platforms like Vargas Línea to get up to date on their payments. Flexible payment arrangements are also being offered, but there is a condition: one must present themselves. The institute reminded that these payments are essential for the daily operation of the system. Currently, IDAAN maintains 56 water purification plants nationwide, which require constant maintenance, supplies, and continuous operation. The institution indicated that the operations will continue and that cuts will proceed province by province as long as delinquency continues to overwhelm the system.
