The Council of Ministers approved today Resolution 19-26, which assigns an amount of B/.18,842,193.43 as a state contribution to the Western Tariff Fund (FTO). This guarantees the stabilization of the electricity tariff for families in Almirante, Guabito, Las Tablas, and Changuinola in Bocas del Toro. This will benefit approximately 183,000 people in this area of the country. This fund compensates for the discount applied by Chiriquí Electric Distribution Company, S.A. (Edechi) to its end customers and the difference between the tariff paid and the real cost tariff approved for the period from July to December 2025. The Cabinet Resolution authorizes the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) to manage the necessary procedures to transfer, in whole or in part, these funds to the company Transmisión Eléctrica, S.A. (Etesa) as the Fiduciary of the FTO. The payment is based on 2015 resolutions in which the state, through the MEF, signed the Trust Contract for the Western Tariff Fund with Etesa. This contract establishes that customers in Almirante, Guabito, Las Tablas, Changuinola, and surrounding areas will maintain their current tariffs while the necessary adjustments are made to improve the quality of their energy supply, and the difference with the approved real cost tariff will be covered by the state. The purpose of this trust is to stabilize energy prices for Edechi customers by transferring funds so that they are passed on in their entirety to end consumers.
