In the first two months of 2026, Acodeco identified over 23,000 violations in Panama's retail sector, including the sale of 20,487 expired products. Key issues include missing prices, discounts, and informational signs for vulnerable groups.

Verification operations, carried out between January and February, expose various violations of consumption regulations nationwide.

Breakdown of commercial irregularities According to the institution's statistical report, the main violation detected corresponds to the commercialization of 20,487 expired products. Inspectors found that 17 economic agents omitted the required discounts, while 15 establishments lacked mandatory signage regarding these rights.

Additionally, 11 infractions related to Law 134 of 2013 were recorded, due to the absence of informative signs about discounts for people with disabilities.

Situation by provinces and regions The report details the volume of expired products withdrawn by geographical area, highlighting significant variations between provinces: • Los Santos: 5,525 • Bocas del Toro: 4,275 • Herrera: 2,141 • Veraguas: 1,693 • Coclé: 1,389 • Chiriquí: 1,384 • Colón: 1,321 • Panamá Este: 1,070 • Panamá (headquarters): 560 • Darién: 558 • Panamá Oeste: 523 • Panamá Norte: 48

Acodeco stated that these actions are part of its permanent work to protect consumers through its regional agencies. This is in addition to 1,131 cases where prices were not visible to the public and 890 records of food in a state of deterioration.

Other infractions include 627 items without an expiration date, 142 situations of double pricing, 87 products with a double expiration date, and 28 cases of illegible expiration dates.

Additionally, 11 incidents were reported due to the improper use of the 25-pound gas cylinder, a resource that has a state subsidy.
