Former President Ricardo Martinelli has expressed through his social media his concern about the economic and social situation in Panama. He has described the handling of the national budget as "ridiculous" and pointed out that the increase in the fiscal deficit to 4.5% represents an obstacle to achieving the desired investment grade.
Martinelli has highlighted that this increase in the fiscal deficit complicates economic reactivation, especially in the face of the current challenges the country is facing, such as the conflict in the mine and changes in social security law. Additionally, he has mentioned the lack of justice, the manipulation of the judicial system, and the absence of due process as obstacles to encouraging investment, both national and foreign.
The former leader has warned that the outlook for this year will be one of difficulties and social unrest, and he has projected that the following years could be even more complex if there is no adequate political backing. Martinelli has emphasized the importance of national reconciliation and proposed a unity government that goes beyond simple party appointments, focusing on true cohesion that allows leaving behind the "unhealthy hatreds."
In this regard, he has urged the need for a government focused on economic reactivation and fulfilling financial support promises to the Panamanian people. Martinelli has stressed that it is essential not only to turn the page but to work on true national reconciliation to promote the development of the country.
