Comptroller of Panama Spends Million on Advertising

The Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic of Panama addresses concerns about its million-dollar advertising campaign, highlighting the entity's achievements and projects.

The General Comptroller's Office of the Republic has responded to the questions raised by lawyer and political analyst Guillermo Cochez regarding the recent advertising campaign conducted by the entity in media outlets. According to the official statement issued on November 6, 2024, with Note No. 3368-2024-LEG/CE, it was reported that the Comptroller's Office contracted the agency CPSH, S.A. to carry out the creation, promotion, and dissemination of advertising messages focused on highlighting the achievements and activities of both the Comptroller's Office and the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).

The contract with the mentioned company was established for a value of one million dollars, intended to cover the production and dissemination of content in media such as radio, television, social networks, and the official website of the entity. The campaign, which was launched at the end of the management of Comptroller Gerardo SolĂs, aims to inform the population about the achievements reached and the projects executed during the period 2020-2024.

Among the highlighted points are the results of the recently completed National and Agricultural Censuses, as well as Panama's participation in the XXXIII Ordinary General Assembly of OLACEFS, where 22 auditing entities from the region addressed issues of international cooperation in transparency. The Comptroller's Office emphasized that this campaign aims to strengthen the institution's commitment to transparency, offering citizens an overview of the work carried out in the last four years.

Amid measures to contain spending, the investment of one million dollars in an advertising campaign has raised doubts and questions from some sectors. The Comptroller's Office has justified this expenditure as a tool to inform the population about the activities and milestones achieved during the period under analysis. Transparency and accountability are key aspects of the work of government entities like the Comptroller's Office, and this campaign falls within that line of communication with citizens.
