The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) has announced that it is working on the creation of the first Manual of Good Agricultural Practices for Robusta Coffee (Coffea Canephora). The main objective of this initiative is to provide coffee producers with a clear and practical guide to help them meet the necessary standards to ensure the production of high-quality coffee while meeting the required environmental and social criteria in the industry.
According to statements from MIDA, the aim is for producers to follow the recommendations and practices outlined in this technical manual in order to improve the quality and sustainability of their Robusta coffee crops. The implementation of good agricultural practices can not only elevate the quality of the harvested beans but can also positively contribute to environmental care and the well-being of the local communities involved in production.
The preparation of this technical manual is an important step in supporting and developing the coffee industry in Panama, as Robusta coffee represents a significant portion of coffee production in the country. With the launch of these guidelines, it is expected that producers will be able to optimize their agricultural processes and, in turn, increase the competitiveness and profitability of their crops.
In the words of a MIDA representative: "This manual will be a valuable tool for Robusta coffee producers, as it will provide them with the necessary information to improve their agricultural practices and, consequently, the quality of their final product." The expectation is that this resource will become a reference for the sector and significantly contribute to the sustainable growth of the coffee industry in the country.
