Five minors experienced moments of anguish after getting trapped by a flash flood in the Las Garzas river, located in the East Panama province. However, thanks to the timely intervention of the authorities, the minors were rescued in time and a tragedy was avoided.
The incident was reported by the minors' relatives, who immediately alerted the authorities. Faced with the emergency, the National Police and the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc) activated a search and rescue operation. With the support of local residents, Sinaproc personnel entered the area by land and managed to evacuate the minors, transferring them to a safe place.
The minors were in good health. The authorities took the opportunity to remind the public that Panama is currently in the rainy season, which has raised the levels of rivers and streams, generating a significant risk for those near these bodies of water. Sinaproc urged the population to exercise extreme caution and avoid approaching the most vulnerable areas.
