Series of Earthquakes Shakes Panama

A series of earthquakes of varying magnitudes struck Panama. The strongest, a 4.7 magnitude quake, was recorded on Sunday near the coast of Veraguas province. Residents of central regions report feeling strong tremors.

On Saturday, March 16, another earthquake struck Panama. The magnitude was 3.8, and its epicenter was located in the Santa Fe district, in the Veraguas province. The earthquake's depth was 10 kilometers.

According to a preliminary report from the University of Panama's Institute of Geosciences, the magnitude was 3.8 with a depth of 5 kilometers. The epicenter was situated 48 kilometers southeast of Soná.

This was followed by several more tremors. Last Thursday, March 14, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook the border region with Costa Rica, specifically 11 kilometers east of Puerto Armuelles.

Then, this Sunday at 2:32 PM, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred north of Isla Gobernadora, also in Veraguas province. Its depth was 11 kilometers.

What makes Sunday's earthquake notable is its shallow depth compared to the usual quakes in the area. Its epicenter was also the closest to the southern coast of Veraguas in recent times.

Initial testimonies collected on social media indicate that the tremor was strongly felt by residents of central provinces in places like Aguadulce, Chitré, Penonomé, and the Soná district, which is closest to the epicenter.
