The National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) has issued a watch alert for several provinces of Panama due to intense rains and significant storms, which will extend until Friday, November 28.
The areas under the alert include: * Bocas del Toro * Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca * Chiriquí (northeast) * Veraguas (north and mountains) * Coclé (north) * Colón * Guna Yala Comarca * West Panama * Panama (north, east, and center) * Darién * Emberá-Wounaan
According to the Panama Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (IMHPA), rainfall accumulations of between 120 and 320 mm are expected in a 72-hour period in several of these regions.
These conditions could be accompanied by electrical activity and wind gusts, which increases the risk of flooding, landslides, water surges, and sudden river rises.
SINAPROC recommendations: * Avoid crossing rivers or streams with high water levels. * If you live in areas prone to flooding or landslides, prepare a family evacuation plan.
In case of an emergency, it is recommended to contact the 911 line or 520-4426 to receive immediate assistance.
