Panama's Reality Show Sparks Public Debate

A new Panamanian reality show, 'Parking de Yen Video,' has ignited a public debate. Local celebrities are sharing their opinions on the popular show, discussing its societal impact and moral implications.

Panama is at the center of a media storm due to the new reality show 'Parking de Yen Video,' which has sparked a heated public debate. Mónica 'Lola' Díaz, host of 'La Mordida,' shared her thoughts, noting that although she hasn't watched the show, she has seen video clips from 'El flautista de Villa Lucre's' Anel Grimaldo and concluded that it is entertaining. 'No Panamanian, no matter how trendy or high-class, will tell me that they don't use swear words,' Lola expressed. The winner of the Turkish reality show 'Power of Love 2' spoke from her experience, explaining that this format allows the public to get to know the personalities beyond the screens and demonstrated that through a cell phone 'everyone is bad,' but face-to-face 'no one wants to say anything.' '...Panama in general is very moralistic... I believe that in our homes, we all say swear words at some point. I think they are necessary to express certain emotions and moods, and if they say it locked up for whatever reason, I think it's natural,' she added. The reality show has both fans and detractors, with the latter mostly disliking it for not being entertaining or for the language, as some participants frequently use swear words. According to Lola, this is a bit hypocritical, as these terms are deeply ingrained in Panamanian slang. The show, which is broadcast 24/7 on its YouTube channel, peaked at 42.2 thousand users on January 8 at 2:53 a.m. It is nearing 100,000 subscribers and is one of the main topics of conversation on social media like TikTok and Instagram. 'Parking de Yen Video,' which entered the top of Spanish-speaking streamers last week with an average audience of 20.2 thousand simultaneous viewers, is making waves both locally and internationally. Local celebrities have also been weighing in on the 'park,' which premiered on January 5. Bartolo Encarnación Guante, known as Barto from the 'Flow La Música' podcast, thinks it's 'super' based on what he has seen and affirmed that as a producer, he will always support everything related to YouTube and streaming because that is his home and what represents him. Likewise, it is an opportunity for the participants to show genuinely who they are in their day-to-day lives. Karina Linnett, who joined the project from the start but had to withdraw due to health issues that forced her to reschedule her January commitments, stated that Yen Fuentes, the show's producer, is doing a good job and is happy with the success it has achieved.
